Agenda for you all of you tonight. And before we get started, would you please all rise for the pledge of allegiance? And just do the reply. Alright. So first order of business, we have presentations and proclamations. The first is a presentation from visit Tri Valley. Okay. Good evening, honorable mayor and members of council. My name is Felicia Escobar, economic development manager for the city of Dublin. Tonight, it’s my pleasure to introduce Tracy Farhad with Visit Tri Valley.

She’s joined by a couple of her board members, to talk to you a little bit about the proposed multiuse venue here in Dublin. This is part of the organization’s, destination strategic plan. And with that, I will introduce Tracy. Good evening, mayor, council members, city staff, and members of the audience. Tracy Farhad, CEO of Visit Tri Valley, your marketing and sales destination, organization for the Tri Valley region. First of all, I wanna just thank you for this opportunity to present to you tonight. Thank you, mayor and council members. And I want to also, congratulate our incoming mayor elect Hugh and, of course, mayor, McCorriston for staying with us, and council member will be recognized, later. And thanks to all of Dublin’s council members who have worked so hard and tirelessly on our behalf. Thank you for your service.

Appreciate that. I also want to secondly acknowledge, who’s with me tonight. We have 2 of our board of directors, our executive committee member. We have mister Chris Hill of the 4 Point Sheraton, our vice chair, Chris, and also mister Chris Carter of the Bankhead Theater who is our secretary. And Chris Chris is right there. And, we also have an esteemed member of our task force in the audience tonight, but I think you’ll hear from him later. So now on to our presentation. So tonight, I’m going to share an overview of the multiuse event center process, the completed phases to date, preconceptual renderings, a proposed site location, along with our next steps. Well, 2 years ago, we engaged with the JLL Global Tourism and Destination Advisory Group to help facilitate our 5 year destination strategic plan. And after a year of research and working with a 22 member steering committee, it was determined to simultaneously delve deeper into the potential development of a multiuse venue to benefit the entire Tri Valley.

These 2 reports are available on our website, visit trivalley.com. So I’d like to share a little background on the multi multiuse venue research results with you first. Well, the need for more event space was apparent and the Tri Valley sits perfectly at the Northern California intersection of 2 freeways, of course. We discovered through our market research 3 optimum user groups all vying for sustainable high end state of the art facility. And this facility needed to accommodate conventions and conferences, live entertainment, and 1 1 stop shop for sports competition to be physically viable. So here’s where we’ve come to date through the commitment of our board of directors and in support of our communities. Phase 1. Okay. It’s a big chart. It justified the level of demand for a new multi use event center.

We conducted market research and competitive analysis. We engage with key stake holders and event producers. We reviewed lodging and audience projections and heard over and over again, build it and they will come. Now based upon this early confirmation, we did not wanna waste any time. So the board of directors approved phase 2 with JLL Advisors, and work continued with a smaller task force to vet sites, entitlements, and zoning regulations, etcetera. And we held monthly meetings with site owners, the cities of Pleasanton, Dublin, and Livermore, all with enthusiastic support. We prepared a 10 year pro form a and architectural renderings to make certain that the facility would be sustainable and delivered to all user groups. Okay. What we discovered through our demand and attendance analysis brought us the proof we needed to pursue this ambitious and aspirational project. Okay.

In addition to the events we already bring to the Tri Valley through our sales and marketing efforts, our conservative estimates would bring nearly a 130,000 new attendees over a 185 event days booking 27,000 more overnight hotel stays for a positive economic impact to the entire region between $75,100,000,000 annually. Now where should this facility be built to maximize on our greatest economic outlook? Well, the task force and consultants developed a set of site criteria to to deliver on not only our 3 identified visitor user groups, but a 4th equally important local residential use for gatherings and vibrant retail spaces all year round. Of course, financial performance and feasibility is key. No 1 wants to be straddled with subsidizing a giant *** ***** box. We needed to be vibrant and lively all year round. We also need to entertain the groups when they arrive, be close to our hotel base, have walkable access to retail, attractions, dining, and entertainment, as well as provide public transportation options. We made the official announcement during our annual luncheon and tourism report in September of our pursuit of this iconic, engaging, visitor tour, and September of our pursuit of this iconic, engaging, visitor driving project. And here are I’m gonna show you right now some preconceptual drawings to help envision the scope of this endeavor. It actually took my breath away when I first saw it.

It actually took my breath away when I first saw this rendering, and that’s probably because I love architecture and design and can just imagine everyone gathering in this space. We envision this facility to be an eye catching destination in its own right. 1, the entire Tri Valley community can be a proud of. I mean, you see here the lively ground floor dining and retail, shops and gathering spaces, And the vision of of the angled roofs along with the three-dimensional walls, they help reflect the surrounding mountains and rolling hillsides that’s all around us. This front elevation view shows an entryway emphasizing our cultural arts and heritage to both educate and inspire visitors to the Tri Valley. Now sports competitions will bring hundreds of amateur and professional teams year round. Families will rotate between watching games and having downtime in our downtowns. As our sports producers commented, no 1 will complain about the space being too pretty. And, of course, our sports, development director, Todd Dibb, says he can book this 52 weekends a year without a problem. Now the Tri Valley has become a hub of corporate innovation and development with 100 of businesses locating here.

This space can convert to accommodate multi day conventions, trade shows, product launches, summits, retreats, all with state of the art technology and services. Those attendees that come for this, they will eat, drink, shop, and will discover who we are. Live theater, anyone? Well, it may not be a Taylor Swift concert. I’m sorry to those in the audience. She does, require a larger arena, than this. But with convertible seating in rapid speed, this event center can hold concert and theater lovers of up to 5,000 attendees. They will come in early. They will dine out. They will visit our wine and our beer trails, and they will tell all their friends what an amazing place this is, and then they will come back for more.

Now for the proposed site, which is I know is the moment you’ve all been waiting for. Well, we started with 2 dozen sites and narrowed it down to 12, all analyzed in detail with our city partners, our site owners, the task force, our board of directors, and it was recommended and approved by our board of directors to pursue site b in Dublin. It’s gonna be here. Well, with more than 61% of our hotel rooms within close proximity, a highly visible free low freeway location, and a most welcoming enthusiastic, city staff, I might add, site b in Dublin became the front runner. Here’s an overhead view of the 12 and a half acre county lot next to the BART and County garages, and in between what has become known as the IKEA lot to the right. I guess X truly did mark the spot in this particular moment. Here’s another view looking back toward the garages, and this is from the corner of Martinelli Way and Arnold Road and walking distance to Bart, Persimmon Place, Hacienda Crossings, and easy on off freeway access. Site B also borders 2 of our other very important, district cities with Livermore close by, and this lot provides for regional integration, environmental sustainability, that hospitality infrastructure that’s absolutely essential to meeting, sports, retail, and entertainment. So what are our next steps? Well, we will pursue a memorandum of understanding with you, with the city of Dublin.

We’ll collaborate with Alameda County, and we’ll begin phase 3 in the new year. And this, phase 3 will include creation of a finance package for the predevelopment design segments, traffic and environmental sub consultants work, and agreement on the management and operating structure. With VISIT Tri Valley at the helm, we’re at your service. So we anticipate phase 3 to last up to 18 months. And with the stars in alignment, projected groundbreaking in 2027. It’s enthusiastic, but I think we can do it. So I want to thank you. I want to thank, our board of directors for their steadfastness and for the city of Dublin for being so willing and able to be partners with us in pursuit of this major legacy for the Tri Valley. On behalf of our board and our staff, we’re your partners in tourism and happy to hear any comments or questions you might have. So thank you very much for the opportunity.

Before I open it up for their, the council’s comments and questions, I do wanna just tell you or, let you know that I’m very excited about this. And I’ve conveyed this. This is what Dublin is missing. This is a link, a partnership with the rest of the Tri Valley. And it’s not just about sports. Yeah. We’re all sports freaks here. Right? But we, we’re looking at this from a broader perspective, the cultural events and the design work. And I know there’ll be iterations and everything, and there’s a lot of hard work.

But I just want to thank you for selecting Dublin. And, now we’re going to plug in even more into the Tri Valley. And I’m sure that mister Halbert in the audience is is well aware of our desire to get going on that. So very much thank you. So I’m gonna open it up for anybody else who has any comments. Okay. I’ll let these guys go, and then we’ll do public comment. Okay. Council member. Thank you for the presentation, and thank you for selecting Dublin.

Excited to see this come to fruition and, share the excitement of of several folks here. Thank you. Thank you, Kent. Yeah. I’m I’m thrilled. You know, we’ve we’ve wanted to have an a venue for, being able to do youth sports tournaments, professional sports tournaments, concerts, and, you know, the region as a whole is gonna benefit, being able to tie it all in. I know pre pandemic, we were talking about a convention center hotel here in Dublin and, COVID, you know, put the put the brakes on that and, this is even better than that and I’m really thrilled that it’s going to be a jewel of the Tri Valley, located here in Dublin and will benefit our residents tremendously as well as our local businesses and the region’s businesses and, couldn’t be prouder that you selected Dublin. Made a great choice. Council member. Yes.

I too share the absolute delight in the the choosing of our city for this location. I think we all see the greatness that, that it will bring in not just, again, sports, but the arts. Wow. Huge. So important that we continue to highlight the arts and are a thriving, vibrant, premier destination spot to welcome visitors. And Dublin is the perfect place to land, and I can’t wait. So, yay. We’re competing with Las Vegas on all this, you know. And Maryland. Thank you.

Thank you, Tracy. Thank you, visit Trivadi. So thrilled, so excited to hear the news today and that just made today more special and thank you and this will bring not only more activities, more excitement to our Dublin residents that will also bring visitors, bring business, and bring just a high quality, activities to our, residents. I’m I’m thrilled and we want to partner with you and make sure this project will come to fluency. Thank you. So I know we did this a little bit backwards, but do we have any public comment? Mayor, I do have 1 speaker slip for public comment, and that is Tim Sabrante. Okay. Good evening. Honorable mayor, mayor elect, and council members.

Tim Sabrante, long time resident, been involved in various capacities in the city, and just really excited to see this, move forward, and and really even more excited to see, the mayor and the council’s enthusiastic support. Obviously, a lot of work ahead, to make this come to fruition, but I think you guys, everybody recognizes, the potential benefits, not just here to the city of Dublin, but obviously the regional benefit. And, you know, when you look over the years, you know, hotels and convention studies have been and convention centers have been studied, but the question was, well, is there enough room, you know, is there gonna be enough use over the course of 52 weeks? And then we’ve looked at event centers of about 5,000 seats, and the question’s been, well, is there gonna be enough for over 52 weeks? And we’ve looked at sports centers. You know, is there gonna be enough over 52 weeks that the wisdom in this project and with the credit to visit Tri Valley, is the fact that, you know, when you have the combined multiuse center, you really can fill 52 weeks, and you really can have multiplying economic impact, which I think has already been recognized in terms of the ancillary commercial development on the 12 acre site itself. Can’t think of a better location, but any of you been involved with youth tournaments, you know, you’re going out to for breakfast, you’re going out for lunch, you’re going out for dinner, you’re going shopping, you know, you’re coming early, you’re staying late, so re this is gonna have a bigger benefit. Obviously, it was already identified in terms of the benefits to the arts, the different artistic events, in combination with your cultural, arts center that’s opening up next year, that’s gonna be a huge boon, but I don’t wanna overlook the sports. I think that is really something I really wanna just end with, is Dublin has a real opportunity here with this center specifically to really put a marker down for the region, not just Tri Valley, but for the entire East Bay as a hub as it relates to sports specifically. When you have an event center like this that can host so many different tournaments, both youth sports, you know, collegiate sports, professional sports, everything in between, when you have that type of a center.

And then when you combine that, when you look at I was just earlier tonight, I was at the wave. You know, I was there with my daughter who doing she was doing soccer, but you see all these people swimming indoors late at night. You know, you go to Fallon Sports Park. You look at all the different events there. Now the new cricket pitch. You look at the fact that we have the Dublin Leprechauns. You look at the fact that the Bay Valley Sun Soccer, team is looking to build a soccer facility in the region, which it creates another opportunity for Dublin, you know, to really just put this marker down as, you know, this is something we have in Dublin. This is something that differentiates us. You know, other communities, they have amazing downtowns. I know we’re working on ours.

Maybe other communities have beautiful theaters. Dublin, though, I think, really has a chance to put a marker down as an identifying feature that we have we are a major hub for sports, not just for the Tri Valley, but for the entire region, and I think this project being a cornerstone of that. So I’m excited to see this, first step and look forward to, seeing this, go forward in the years to come. Thank you. Thank you. So I’m just gonna end with, Tracy, we are a partner. We have 1 more public speaker? Yes, Mayor. Supervisor Halbert would like to talk about. Okay.

Woah. Okay. Yeah. I didn’t plan this, but I I do want to take a moment to say, thank you to Tracy for all the hard work she’s put in, and you need to know Tracy is a go getter and get stuff done. When she brings this, it’s going to happen. I stand firmly committed to, doing our share as a county to work with the the city of Dublin. I’m so thrilled for you, for us. I am still a resident of Dublin here. And the Emerald City, the crown jewel of the Tri Valley. Don’t tell the other cities I said that.

No. I’m I’m just thrilled, but I I know I I Tim did a great job of explaining, all of these benefits, but I wanna mention 1 other thing. This is just another progression of the smart growth that Dublin has been on for the last 30 years. We grow in a smart way. We don’t stop. We keep going. We lean into it, and I think that’s a key ingredient for, being chosen for having this site be you’re right next to parking spaces, and they told us don’t build the parking spaces. Nobody’s going back to BART. We need parking spaces. We built parking spaces for the next 100 years, and it’s still going to be, allowing, people to come to this, Tri Valley event center to park, and it’s just again I commend you for having continued commitment to growth, not growth at any cost, but growth that’s smart growth that’s planned, growth that has been supported by your predecessors, mayor Hernandez in the house, myself, Sabrante, Houston.

We’ve all, supported smart growth, and this is just another example of the benefits that come with that. So Godspeed to getting this done. 2027 is what I heard. Yeah. I heard it. Thank you. Take care. So now I don’t have to say what I was gonna say. You said it all. But I will say, Tracy, as I honestly was gonna say is we are a partner with the Tri Valley, and that’s what this is about.

Okay. Hi, Brent. Hello, honorable mayor. I just wanna start by addressing Colleen Tribbey. I came last meeting. I had a concern and you addressed it in item 9. So thanks for doing that. I just wanna say to everyone in the city, Merry Christmas. Christmas is next week. So So to all the Christians and Catholics who live here, Merry Christmas.

The reason I’m here because I would like in the new year that we remove DEI from our government. So the local government is not intended to be political. When you run for the council or the mayor, we don’t know what political party you are. We don’t know your political affiliations. That’s how it’s always been. But DEI got put into our government a few years ago, and it is political and it’s divisive. And so it should be taken out. It’s in every area of our government. It should be taken out and we come up with it at the local level. We have the people.

We can come up with the ideas. And I think, DEI prohibits us from being the best city that we can be. So thanks. Perhaps. Mayor, the next speaker is Musa Terek. Hello, esteemed council members. I’m Musa with CAIR, the Council on American Islamic Relations. I hope you’re all doing well and wishing you all happy holidays. On September 17, 2024, we packed the chambers and asked this council to divest from genocide and apartheid. You promised to form a subcommittee in December to review your investments, and it is now December.

We’re here today at the last city council meeting of the year to remind Dublin of their promise to divest from destruction. Last week, Alameda County became the 1st US county to divest from genocide. They divested $32,000,000 from Caterpillar in response to humans rights violations, and they also agreed to craft and implement an ethical investment policy. We want to commend Dublin for being the 1st city in Alameda County to commit to divestment. We are here to reiterate our demands and ensure the Dublin City Council fulfills its promise to the community to adopt an ethical investment policy and review its investments. So, essentially, we are requesting an update on progress towards this goal, including concrete steps such as a timeline, clear policy language implementing a negative screen against genocide and apartheid, and maintaining the strength of that language. The city of Dublin is currently invested in companies who are directly contributing to the ongoing genocide in Gaza, including Caterpillar, whose bulldozers are being used for large scale demolitions of Palestinian homes, schools, and hospitals. We must take action now especially after the Alameda County decision to divest from Caterpillar. We want to echo our friends in the Dublin community to say we deeply appreciate all of your efforts. We look forward to continue working with you to ensure that Dublin permanently divest from genocide, apartheid, and climate destruction, setting a lasting precedent for justice in the Tri Valley region.

Thank you all so much. Let’s And the next speaker the next speaker is Rabia Badar. Good evening, everyone. My name good evening, respected mayor and city council members. I would first like to congratulate the mayor and city council members who are being sworn in tonight. My name is Rabia Butler, and I’m a Dublin resident at Avera’s High School. This evening, I would like to share some of the projects I’ve been working on to serve our community. I wanted to address the issue of food insecurity in our community. Last month, I launched a successful food virtual food drive that raised over $4,000 for the Alameda County Food Bank. This amounts to thousands of meals for the food insecure in our community.

And earlier this year, I volunteered at the Open Heart Kitchen in Dublin every Monday to end Wednesday from 10 to 1 serving senior citizens in our community. My latest project is to raise $16,000 to purchase 65 laptops for families in need who are who will attend my community centers refugee bazaar. 2 days into my project, I have already raised close to $35100 which amounts to 13 families receiving a laptop. I would like to stay connected with the city of Dublin to learn about more projects my club can participate in. Thank you. Thank you. We’re all feeling good. We’re heading into the holidays, but there are rules in the diocese. No plotting. Okay.

Thank you. Honorable mayor and members of the city council, Marsha Moore, city clerk. The city has received the results of the November 5th 2024 general municipal election from the Alameda County registrar voters. A consolidated general municipal election was held in the city of Dublin on Tuesday, November 5th 2024 for the purpose of electing 1 mayor for a 2 year term and 2 city council members, 1 from district 1 and 1 from district 3 for full e terms of 4 years and for measures I I and JJ. Voter turnout was 74.56 percent with 27,496 votes out of 36,880 registered voters in the city of Dublin. Sherry Hu was elected mayor with 9,274 votes. Michael McCorrison was elected council member for district 1 with 6,133 votes. John Murata was elected council member for district 3 with 2,447 votes. Measure II was passed by the voters with 13,649 votes, and measure JJ was passed by the voters with 19,350 votes. It is staff’s recommendation that the city council adopt the resolution certifying the election results and declare ordinances 1425 and 1525 duly adopted by the people.

Thank you for being so engaged in your work as a city council member even though we knew it was brief. And thank you for supporting and championing the work that city staff does. That everyone recognize that about you, and we just really thank you from the bottom of our heart. Mayor, we would like to invite up, Caroline Francois from congressman de Sauniere’s office. She here? Okay. Great. Hi, mayor and council. Thank you so much for having me. My name is Caroline Francois, and I’m not congressman Mark de Sauniere, but I am here speaking today on his behalf, to thank you, Council Member Thalblom, for stepping up to serve your city, not once, but twice.

As as a former, council member, Congressman Desaulnier really knows the work that it takes, and the time it takes away from your family and all the other things you could be doing. So thank you for stepping up to serve Dublin twice and for your continued service on planning commission. We’re very thankful for you and have a token of recognition. I think we should have photo with everybody. I think so. We’re gonna go let’s go around the front. Yeah. Now here, and she said go on. Yeah. Let’s go.

So we’re gonna mix? It’s good. Good evening, mayor and, esteemed council members. I am Rosa Rodriguez. I am here on behalf of assembly member Liz Ortega and, to we appear to present a special recognition to outgoing council member Thalblom. On behalf of assembly member Ortega and the state of California, we want to thank you for your long standing commitment to the city of Dublin and for stepping up during a time of transition for the city. Your leadership on key regional and city committees, along with your involvement in many local events, has made a lasting impact on the city. Your commitment to public service, volunteerism and community engagement exemplifies the values that strengthen our community. We applaud your achievements and your outstanding dedication to serving this community in the 20th Assembly District. Best wishes on your next venture.

And I do have a little. That’s it. Okay. We’ve got just a just a few more. Lauren Howe from assembly member Bauer Kane’s office. Good evening, Janine, and good evening, council members and mayor elect. I’m honored here to represent assembly member Bauer Kehan in extending heartfelt gratitude to council member, Steen Thalboom. Janine has been a pillar of leadership and community engagement through her many years of service from her contributions on the Parks and Community Services Commission to her role in the planning commission and her willingness to step up up twice when Dublin needed her. Her unwavering commitment to collaboration and thoughtful decision making has helped shape Dublin into the vibrant community it is today. Not to mention, every time I’ve encountered you, you always have the biggest smile on your face.

What’s up? Nope. Janine, your certificate is in the mail. I just wanted to say thank you so much. We never expected that this is the way you were going to come in for a second time in a second term. So I wanted to say from the bottom of my heart that I appreciate you stepping right in. I know that when, Vice Mayor Don Biddle passed away, you were there to support us at that time. And then, when I was, support when I was elected to, be on the BART, as the BART director, you stepped in again for the second time. So not only do you love your community so much that you did this 2 times in a row, but also just your dedication for so many years, that you’ve given to this community, and not only to the community, but to all, the children of Dublin High School. I know that both of our children, grama in the same class, but always stepping in to be, right there and supporting, each other here in our community.

So I wanted to say thank you so much. I know you will be doing great things. I hope you get back on a commission, and to stay involved, as you always have. So again, thank you so much for, your time and dedication to the entire city of Dublin. 3, 2. And finally, Mayor would like to invite invite up a supervisor, Albert. Janine, you’re amazing. I’m not gonna repeat everything that was said, how you stepped up to the plate twice to serve. But I wanna also mention you’re a US army veteran. You’ve served our country as well as serving our community.

You’re a loving mother, and I love your kids. They’re not kids anymore. They’re adults. But I remember when they were kids. You’re, a loving daughter, a loving wife. You’ve helped so many, people, and you’re just a great resident. And I know that you do this work with a smile on your face. You come prepared with an open mind. You make decisions with 1 prepared with an open mind. You make decisions with wonderful decision making.

You’re easy and wonderful to get along with. I just can’t tell you how, proud I am to know you, how, grateful I am for your service, and, how much, we’re gonna miss you on the council, but can’t wait to see what your next chapter in life is. Thank you for all you’ve done. Got it. Thank you. We do this all. You do that? You may sit. Mayor, while you’re making your way back, we have some gifts, for Janine. Sure.

Wow. As we’ve all said, I I look at you in a sports analogy. You’re the you’re the utility player. Anybody ever call you that? Are great. You’ve done an excellent job. I wasn’t here the first time, but you did a very good job this time. You filled in. I would say that, you know, all of us are very appreciative of of your efforts, and, we got through that 6 months. And it wasn’t easy.

Right? There were some some tough decisions that had to be made. But, I’m really glad you stepped up and you helped helped us all and you helped City of Dublin. Thank you. So I don’t know if you need to be your husband. You’re not. Oh, have you seen the guns on this woman? She can have her. She’s an American. You’re gonna have to pinch a little bit.

You might be sad. I am going to do that as soon as I sit down here. Okay. Council, comments. Yes, absolutely. Thank you so much for stepping up to serve our community twice as so many folks have mentioned on such short order. It’s been a pleasure to share the dais with you twice on 2 separate in 2 separate capacities, once obviously on the planning commission and then again here in council. We’re going to miss you tremendously and, also miss the As. Thank you. Council member Southam, I think you stepped up at a very critical time, and during the time our city is going to, going through a lot of changes.

We have, new, appointed a mayor and then you appointed a council member. And also later on, we, selected our city manager, also assistant city manager, and then many other, new teams. And you came in at the right time and prepared and there’s, no no time, for you to really, learn anything for you. You just know how to, hit the ground and running. I really appreciate that because we have a high expectation of you and you fulfilled everything and you brought your wisdom, your experience and, your collaborative spirit. I think every team member will really, really enjoy working with you and appreciate your effort, your dedication, and you’re just a role model of our residents. I really appreciate. Thank you again. And I know no matter what you do in the future, you will be cool, you know, be very, very, happy and enjoy your life. And we’ll see you around.

Thank you, Josie. Don’t say nice things, kids. Oh, come on. You and I don’t usually say nice things to each other. So this is a this is a, I’m I’m joking. We we are very good friends. I may be the only 1 of us that was in the room when you were here the first time, those of us on the dais. I wasn’t at the dais, but I was, I was running, and so I was in the the cheap seats, the entire time and had the pleasure of witnessing, what a wonderful council member you were the first time around, when you stepped up at a critical time for the city when we, had vice mayor Don Biddle pass away while he was serving. And I was so I so admired the way you handled that, how quickly you became a really good council member the first time you sat up here. Not only did you do an amazing job at the dais, but you immediately, and smoothly integrated into the regional committees that you served on.

I know at that time you were on LAFTA. I think you were also on military families at that time as well. And your learning curve was as short as I’ve seen, for people that filled these roles, which is why when we were faced with having to make an appointment this time around, to me, it was such a no brainer because this was such a short appointment. And you proved us right that you so seamlessly just stepped right back into the role. You are an amazing colleague. You are an amazing council member. You are always a team player with great ideas and great opinions. You are a champion for the city of Dublin. You are a champion for our residents here. You’re a champion for our staff, and you’re a fantastic colleague, and I am gonna very much miss having you up here at the.

But I’m glad to know that you’re still around in the city of Dublin, so I can call you for advice. And now I love the fact that it’s not a Brown Act violation. I discuss things with you, so I can call you on agenda items, and and that’ll be a great sounding board for me. So, I’m glad that you’ll still be around. Thank you. Thank you for your service to us. It’s hard not to speak to you for so long. I know. It’s been hard not to discuss stuff. Any any thoughts, comments on your I’ll keep it brief because I know we have bigger parties to be had here.

And like former mayor and current county supervisor, Mr. Howard said, we all do sacrifice. And my family is in Arizona right now because my son graduates tomorrow, his second ceremony. So, 40 step. Go, Go, Sun Devils. I’ll be catching the 5 am flight tomorrow morning to go join them. But, we certainly had a busy 6 months. And, I wanted to extend my gratitude for the opportunity, to once again serve the City of Dublin. It is my family members call me a civics pinch hitter. So, I’m so appreciative of the vote of confidence that you had in me, and the position was not taken lightly.

And I believe that, my experience did prepare me to step back in and make the necessary work, an easier move. And while important and tough decisions were made, some quite unexpected during this term, hard work and collaboration kept us moving forward together. We have a diverse, exciting small business group in the City of Dublin, a strong, successful, large business presence, an energetic Chamber of Commerce with growing membership. Also, our economic development team continues to work to bring even more new companies here. We have amazing and very well maintained parks, wonderful events and programs too, fun for all ages from toddlers to seniors. We are fiscally sound, incredibly safe, with dedicated police and fire services working hard around the clock, supporting supported by strong sound leadership. Our national night out program is growing, and it’s so wonderful to see communities coming together in support of each other and their safety and well-being. Our public works also has a big hand in our safety and does a spectacular job in our city. Thanks for my sign, too. Every staff member I have had contact with is incredibly knowledgeable and proud of Dublin and equally all in towards its continued success.

There these are just a few highlights of why I chose Dublin as home for over 25 years and continue to pour my heart and soul into it. Have we grown? Absolutely. With that growth has come great things. Parks, businesses, schools, art, infrastructure, and a very diverse community. I see continued great potential for our city, and I’m grateful for having a very small part in the success. I encourage our citizens to learn how we got here and what we have planned for our future. We aren’t finished yet, and great things are in the horizon. With my parting words of gratitude, I include a note of caution as our city is transitioning into area elections. A good candidate votes for something they know is in the best interest of the city, while some public outcry may demand the opposite.

A good council member recognizes that an angry mob does not necessarily reflect the view of a quiet majority. You may have been elected by a few 1,000, but you represent all 70,000 plus. Loud doesn’t necessarily mean right. While everyone should be heard and deserves that opportunity, decisions should be made based on merit, not emotion. I wish you all the very best moving forward. And we’ll continue to champion our amazing city of Dublin. Thank you. Thank you. Hey. Do you have any public comment?

I’ve had the honor to fill several roles and they all gave me a different perspective. I would say that they were all fulfilling and, I am looking forward to serving the city of Dublin for another 4 years, and I thank the city of Dublin for allowing me to do so. Yeah. Thank you. Thank you. Mayor, if I, if I might, council member McCorriston, you’re not leaving us. You’re staying on the dais, but we thought we would give you a nice gift for, being, an engaged and thoughtful leader for the last 6 months and stepping in and and really just being very active in your role, and supportive of staff, supportive of our work, and we appreciate that. Mayor Hu, in that box is a gift for councilman McBorristone. That’s a lovely gift. So you can still continue to work as mayor at home.

Oh, you pushed down again. Yes. Now it’s working. Okay. Oh, well, thank you, Mayor, who I think the first order of business is me for me to figure out all the buttons in front of me. I want to say thank you to the city of Dublin for allowing me to serve you for these 4 years. It’s currently important that from the perspective of integrity, and ensuring that we have the right voices in place, that we represent those up here on the dais. And I feel very extremely honored to be with all of my council colleagues to ensure that we maintain that throughout. So thank you very much. And I appreciate all of you being here.

The energy outside was amazing. That is what drives me to continue to serve all of you. Thank you very much. Thank you, council member. And congratulations again for both of you. And good evening, everyone, and community leaders, and distinguished guests and residents of Dublin, and I’m deeply honored and humbled to sit here before you today as newly elected mayor. This is a significant moment for me, not just because you trusted me, with this role, and also because you are finally my family and friends. And 1 thing I do want to point it out, we have many former mayors in house today. We have former mayor Guy Houston and former mayor, Tim Sabrenti and former mayor Dave Harbour and former mayor Melissa Hernandez and our former mayor Michael McCoster. And I want to point out this because this this is who they are, and this is who what is our government is.

Our former mayors, they are also our residents. They are also, always be here in the community and give us advice and to watch our city growing and thriving. So I want to give them a round of applause here. So first and foremost, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported me along this journey. And many of you are here, and many of you are going to celebrate with me later on. And some of you already celebrated. We have several different events. And, I want to say whether you voted for me or not, I promise you this. I will be the mayor for all of you and for all of our residents in Dublin. And together we will chart a path forward to make this city a even better place for everyone.

A little bit of background about myself. As a first generation immigrant, I came to this country when I was 26 years old and at that time already armed with my bachelor and the master degree and some work experience but barely any language. And I still remember I was sitting in the classroom at the University of Nebraska Lincoln and I was wondering how I’m going to survive this. Just fast forward after a little bit of over 2 decades. I have a grown grown older, but not old. And I’m so proud to call W my home. And this this city is a truly amazing a community that have all of you so no matter I just want to say it’s a very diverse population and very energetic city and they really embrace diversity here so I’m really grateful. Looking ahead, my vision for Dublin is clear, safety, community, and opportunities for all. So opportunities to grow businesses, opportunities to work and study, and opportunities to enjoy a great quality of life, because we all deserve to thrive here in our home, Dublin. And 1 thing I want to ask you to do is to sign up for the Dublin Digest.

It’s a weekly newsletter, and I promise it’s informative, keep you updated on what’s going on and shares events that will enrich your life. Thanks to our city manager and the many staff here. And thanks again for your trust and the confidence. So with that said, we’ll move forward to next agenda item. Is that 8.5? 8.4. 8.4. The selection of vice mayor. So we want to select the vice mayor for the year 2025. So I would like to recommend council member, Kashif for the role.

So Kashif has been with us for 2 years and has consistently demonstrated his deep understanding of the city issues. Also, he showcased his professionalism and also his ability, his dedication to the city of Dublin. The role also of vice mayor is an opportunity for the council members to take a leadership role within the council. So in the past, our council member GOC, council member and former mayor Michael McCosten and myself we all have been taking this role. So this time, I truly trust council member Khoschev will, become a really good vice mayor for our, for our coming year, and I would like to recommend him. And any discussions? Just a a comment. Please go ahead. And I think you’ve selected a very qualified individual. I think he will do very well.

And when we’re done, I’d like to make a motion. I mean, more comments. Excellent choice. I would like to make a comment, if I may. Considering this is my first comment, I wrote down my thoughts, if I may. It, it wasn’t long ago that I was actually sitting in that audience about 4 minutes ago. And actually, I’ve even had the opportunity to come up to the podium. And it was during the time that we were seeking for interim city council seat. And I remember specifically council member Qadri asked a very impactful question to every candidate that came up. There were 8 of us.

The question was, does this city have a surplus or a deficit? And how much? Remember that question? And the only thing that ran through my head and being extremely nervous was that, I was like, he gets it. This is the person who truly gets the right question to ask to understand what each council member brings to the table. So in reciprocity, council member Kadri, I think your genuine inquisitiveness, your performance diligence, and your attention to detail is what makes you a great choice. Thank you. Excellent. Thank you. Council member Caudre, any comments?

Yeah. I I’m truly honored, by this opportunity and deeply appreciate the trust, that you’ve placed, in me. Look forward to serving our community in this new capacity, hopefully with dedication, collaboration, and a shared vision, for all of us in Dublin. Thank you. All good. So any any public comments? I have no speaker slips, Mayor. Thank you. So we’re ready to take, votes. Give a motion.

Not yet. Not yet. We’ll we’ll keep the seats Yes. And, until next next term. And, the meeting agenda item 8.5, mayor’s appointment to city commissions and the committees. We have a presentation. Right? Honorable honorable mayor and members of the city council. In December of even numbered years, terms expire on 5 of the city’s commissions and committees. A recruitment was opened on October 7, 2024 with a deadline for applications to be submitted by Friday, November 15th.

The city clerk’s office received 15 applications for heritage and cultural arts commission, 14 applications for the human services commission, 16 applications for the parks and community services commission, 12 applications for the planning commission, and 15 applications for the Senior Center Advisory Committee. Mayor Hu has recommended her appointments to the city council for approval, and those were included in your staff report for this evening. Thank you. Yeah. Thank you. So I want to make a comment first about this, and then we’ll invite all of you, for questions or comments. Regarding the selection of community members, I want to share my thoughts on this process. We received unprecedented and overwhelmingly large number of for your enthusiasm and willingness to serve our community and it’s truly heartening to say so many of you eager to contribute. So as you all know unfortunately we only have a few numbers of positions and I personally read through each, application and I can honestly say that I would have loved to select, all of you. However, we need to make difficult decisions now.

And in this process, I considered a variety of, factors including geographic and demographic diversity as well as relevant experience. And I also made many phone calls to a selected, list of candidates because I wanted to ensure every decision was thoughtful and well informed. So it’s important to note that we do not require district specific information for this committee selection because we only have 1 city together. And no matter where you live, when served on the committees and you and we must always remember that our work impacts the entire city and all the residents. So those are the information I want to share here before I invite all of you for questions or comments. With that said, any comments? Alright. My comment is, I think you selected, some very qualified people. I’d support it. Yeah.

Thank you, council member. Thank you. Just sort of looking at the distribution, I I was wondering if you could sort of elaborate on 2 comments that you made. 1 was just around the selection criteria and, the interview process a little more. And second, I know you were seeking diversity in terms of geographic, you know, geographic placement. Were there other factors in terms of diversity that you were looking at in terms of background, professional background, or technical background, or experience as well as tenure? Okay. Should I answer the question right now? Okay. So, because we have a, a lot of numbers, so our Clerk actually did a very great work.

They put all the things, all the applications, in a huge spreadsheets. And, so what what I did is I read through them and I look at their experience, I look at their, their passion about serving, and I also look at it because I want to match, younger or that different age group as well. And so that’s basically how I decided, And for some people, I I don’t have exactly great ideas about, you know, like, whether they can be successful. I made phone calls to them. So I probably made over 10 phone calls, but I already I think I already knew at least half of the, the overall applicants. So I would say based on, their applications for sure and also based on my understanding of how things should work. Another comment I want to, make is you don’t have to be a commissioner to serve. And kind of like what we heard is we don’t have to be city council members to serve. And we will provide a lot of volunteer opportunities. We will have, a lot of events in the city.

We welcome everyone to be part of that. And after today, I know we got a new comments from the city about different districts. I relook at everything again. I kind of balanced from different districts. I know it’s hard to balance everything perfectly, but I I I probably spend longer time than anybody would expect. I probably spend a few days on this selection. Any more comments? Yeah. I I appreciate the fact that you spent a long time looking at these applicants. This is not an easy part of this job, especially when it’s you you just got it.

And you’re just now doing it. And I appreciate that you mentioned several things about your criteria and how you went about it, that you were looking at geographic diversity, you were looking at demographic diversity, that you said you looked at relevant experience. And I appreciate the fact that we don’t require district consideration, but that you mentioned that it was your desire to make sure that we have balanced representation. And you mentioned age, you mentioned, you know, citywide that we want people to be citywide. And, certainly, we had a lot of enthusiasm and and a huge bunch of applicants. I also appreciate that you mentioned that there’s no way we can see all these people because there’s, you know, way more people that are interested than there are, positions to be had. I do, have a couple of questions about what you considered to be relevant experience, though, because when I looked at the list of people and and individually, I think every person that applied would be a great commissioner. And I I don’t want, any of my comments to be construed as, a concern about any particular person that applied. I think that everybody that applied to our committees and commissions, would ultimately do a good job. But I do have a slight concern about collectively, as a group, who you are putting forward for a couple of the committees in particular.

And I would love to hear a little bit more about what you considered relevant experience and what you didn’t consider relevant experience. Because when I looked through the list, and I saw that you have bypassed a couple of people that are currently serving and would like to be reappointed for their current positions, Our norm has always been that we either, allow somebody to serve their 2nd term before their term limited, unless they have been problematic on that commission. And we have, we have 1 person in particular that is in that situation that you are not recommending. So I’d like to hear your thoughts on that as a whole, not necessarily on a specific person, but your thoughts on that as a whole. And also, when we as a council decided to put alternates in place, the intent was certainly not the requirement, but the intent was that alternates who are interested in moving into an open position, the intent was that alternates who are interested in moving into an open position would be given preference for that, and we have, the situation where an alternate was bypassed. So that to me would be relevant experience. It also appears that we have applicants in the area in which they were applying that had direct work related experience in the, the for example, we had somebody with direct planning experience applying for planning commission. We had somebody with direct relevant experience in, human services that applied for human services commissions, and those people were overlooked. And you were recommending people that don’t have that relevant experience, which is, you know, in some cases might be fine if you were trying to balance demographics, if you were trying to balance citywide, things like that. But when I looked at the totality for a couple of commissions, it looked like there was a lack of diversity of thought on as an individual commission or a lack of diversity in geography on an individual commission.

Taken as a whole, I think that across the board, there’s there’s good diversity. But when you look at each individual commission, sometimes there’s a lack of diversity. So I I would love for you to hear your thoughts on this. I know it’s a it’s a very hard decision. I noticed a few things you said that that was pretty hard for me. When I look at the experience, I actually sometimes do not look at a specific experience for that area, especially for planning committees because, that’s my understanding of committees getting the community inputs, not get the professionalism or skills in that that specific field. And I talked to, a few planning committee members. They served many terms in the past and, they actually, make comments like a firstly so now require for specific professional skills and sometimes that professional skills may not what what’s the right word to say like because we are looking for more like a as a community members, what are you what’s your understanding? What’s your thoughts on that specific project instead of professional skills experience? So that’s the the comments I heard, and I appreciate that.

And for the people, I know you are so qualified, and sometimes I I’m so sorry. I I hate to, you know, just escape or pass pass that. It’s just a hard decision for me to make. And and for people, like, experience, sometimes I feel like we also want a new blood. And so we want a mix of newer without experience and some has more experience, a group of people together. So they I have to say this is a very, very hard decision for me. I I would really like we we have everybody here, and, certainly, I think we we want to include everyone. For the people who didn’t get selected, they can still be part of this community, still can contribute, still can participate in committee meetings, and also, make comments because we always welcome public comments. From you, John? You’re good?

There’s a couple of points in particular that, I’m not gonna be able to support those. The, the not reappointing, people who have done a great job, to be able to re up for the commissions that they are interested in, not necessarily people that were on 1 committee and want to move to another committee. Not yet, that’s a different ballgame, but but we have both on the Parks Commission. We have somebody who wants to to serve the remainder of their term and we have an alternate on the senior center that wants to re up for their term. And I I think that that is, we we owe it to those people that have been doing a great job to continue to do that and and those people you are not reappointing. And so I can’t support that recommendation. I’m very concerned about the planning commission that, individually, I think everybody that you’re recommending would do a great job. I have no problem with each 1 of those people individually. But taken as a whole, they represent a sameness of thought and not a diversity of opinions. Their applications were all very, very similar, not as much in geographic location, although I think quite a few of them were from the same area.

But taken together, they all have the same perspective. And because it’s almost the entire planning commission we’re seeding, I think that we need more diversity of thought on the on the Planning Commission. And so, unfortunately, I cannot vote yes for for these recommendations for those reasons. I understand. Thank you. I understand it’s a very, very hard decision, and I understand your point of view. And I also appreciate your comment about, you know, the the selected committee members recommendation recommended members. Each individual is very qualified. I appreciate that. Thank you.

And I have a trust. I have a confidence in the selected members, and I know they will do great job. And I’m looking forward to, to see how we work together with them. With that said, I would like to invite, motion. I’ll go ahead and make a motion that we confirm the mayor’s appointments to the various commissions and committees, as as stated in the staff report or in the attachments rather. Yeah. And, I will also I recognize the comments of my colleagues. I think those are very important considerations, and we should think about that going forward. And I think your selections are good, and I will second it with, the understanding, the acknowledgment of my colleagues here. Okay.

Mayor Hu? Aye. Motion passes. Motion passes 4 to 1. Thank you. So let’s move on to agenda item 8.6, the city council committee appointments and assignments. So this, item is to confirm the mayor’s recommendation of city council appointments and assignment to regional boards and the commissions. Marsha Moore will pull up the recommendation, and then you can discuss. So we have this on the board, and I want to invite our council members for comments on this. Can we see the Can we see the whole thing?

Can we see the whole thing? Is there a way for us to see the entire thing at once? There we go. I I I’d like to kick off the comments, if I might. I think you did a great job of balancing, people’s time commitments, the committees they had been serving on, the committees you had been serving on, making sure that, council member Murata, had an opportunity to, get into some committees there as well. There are 2 things that stood out to me. 1 is that, you’ve taken yourself off of, Ava. I would encourage you to try to reconsider that, given that your background is in energy. And, we fought for you to get onto that committee. We had to work hard to get you onto that committee.

And, I think that it it does all of us a service when you’re on that committee because it, it plays to your strengths. And so I would love to see you committee to continue on that committee. Similarly, you have moved me into the alternate role on LAFCA. And, I believe that it would be to, LAFCA’s best interest and our best interest for, Council Member McCorston and I to continue to serve as the members on that committee, and for you to be in the alternate role on that committee. It is particularly important right now, for LAFTA because they have had so much turnover given the election in Pleasanton and the transitions in Livermore. We are moving into the long range strategic plan project right now in laughter. We’re, we already kicked it off. We had a change in consultant. We’re moving that forward. I’m currently the 2nd longest serving board member on LAfta and 1 of only 2 of 7 that was there when we updated that project last.

And I think that it would be important for me to continue on in that role. The rest of them look fantastic. I think you did a good job on that. Thank thank you, council member. I agree with your selections. I will, support council member or Josie’s, request for left. I think continuation, a continuance of that is really, really important at this time. And I think that’s what she really is focused on is for the benefit of that agency. So I would absolutely support that. I know that’s a little adjustment, but, it’s very critical.

Okay. I heard you. Any other comments? I’m supportive of the I’m supportive of the the balance and, appreciate the the fact that you’re trying to keep the longevity going, on on several of the commissions. How about you, Cosmo Marada? Thank you for the hard work. I I know it’s not easy to to do all this. But certainly from my perspective, thank you for the balance to allow me to work with several council members, and learn from them. I I do have a lot to learn. And, certainly, the the assignment of Veil, is 1 in which, I do have an energy background, but not in particular depth such as yours.

So I think I’d support, councilwoman Jean Josie in in putting putting yourself back into that 1. And if you and if, you would like me to be an alternate, I would be happy to do so. But I I think the depth of your knowledge in that particular space can really be a contribution to the to the community. Yeah. I heard you. So, thank you, and I heard all the comments. And first, let’s look at this, LavaTAR. LavaTAR. And I I heard you, and also I did some, work with the the people in charge of LAFTA, and I believe what you, recommended make great sense. And I I think we would like to keep both of you, customer Ma’Kosta and the customer member Josie, the member and I can move myself to the alternate for that 1.

Yeah. I’m happy to do that change. And another comment I heard from this Eva, that’s 1 of the things I do want to, encourage is, you just step in as the AIVA, community, like the members, because this is important and, I it doesn’t really take it doesn’t require any energy background at all. I think, common sense, and, also, I know you have a a tremendous business and a finance background. That will actually play very well. And, also, I already kind of worked out with the CEO of AIVA, and we want to we want to make sure there’s a smooth transition. And I’m sure you will do great work, and I will still stay as alternate, right? I’m still alternate for that, Eva. Is that right? Yes, yes.

Oh, Cauldre. So would you mind if I stay in alternate? Support, okay. So just change me as alternate and whenever you have questions, I’m here for you. And I used to serve executive board member, and things might have changed. We have to find out what their decision is. And overall, I want to I want to, make a comment here. So this takes a lot of time, and I want to share and council member had that that experience as well. So we had a long council meeting past 12 at night on Tuesday night. And the 2nd day at 10 o’clock, I think it might be 9 o’clock, I have to come here again for this committee regional committee meetings for another 3 hours.

So, a lot of resident didn’t realize they think we are mayors or we are council members. We only come here for the council meetings. But those regional assignments takes many many hours away, and I’m sure LAFT takes a lot of time. Can you can you see how much time is that? Well, there’s, at least 2 meetings a month, for each member. There’s agenda packets just like there are for, council, depending on what’s happening when we’re doing strategic planning. Sometimes there’s more than 2 meetings a month. So it’s, you know, there’s a there’s there’s significant. Yeah. There is a significant time and a sacrifice.

We can spend time with our families and do do our hobby projects. So I really appreciate, all of you, just take your time and contribute contribute to this, regional committee assignments. Thank you. So are there any public comments? Mayor, I have no speakers left. Okay. Great. I’d like to make a motion with these, changes that we’ve talked about, for LAADFA. I can’t say it. I said it even that.

And with that said, we have a last agenda item. Is that right? Last agenda item 9. Oh, sorry, lastly, yeah. 8.7, Mayor’s Appointment of Historian and Poet Laureate. Our next agenda item is to confirm the appointment of the Historian and the Poet Laureate. Changing gears just slightly. Good evening, honorable mayor, members of the city council. Sean Chokotowski, parks and community services manager. The name for tonight is the appointment of city historian in Port Laureate.

1st city historian in Port Oriate were appointed, in 2008, had a little bit of traction for a number of years. In 2020, interest spiked again, with the positions appointed to serve terms beginning in 2021. Due to current terms expiring at the end of its calendar year, staff began recruitment in the fall. In November, the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission reviewed applicants for the positions of poet laureate and city historian, made a recommendation to the mayor. The item for you tonight is to confirm the mayor’s appointments of senior mayor to serve as city historian and Richard Dietz to serve as poet laureate. Both applicants are here and happy to answer any questions. So we want to invite council members for comments. I my comment is that I think we’ve always selected a a good candidate for this position. I think Steve Meneer has done a fabulous job. Very, very engaged with the community.

Gives insights that, maybe we didn’t even wanna hear about. But, yeah, you know, it’s like instant Google. Right? You know, it’s everything. And I I really think that Steve would do, an excellent job again by continuing. I’m sorry. Yeah. Very supportive of the recommendations. The the poet laureate, I don’t know personally. Steve, I’ve had the honor and privilege of meeting on a few on numerous occasions.

And and, as as council member McQuarston mentioned, he’s basically chat GPT for Dublin, which is fantastic. Also a prolific author and and enjoyed reading his work, so excited to see what what he brings to the table in the in the coming years. I I’m excited about both these appointments. I I don’t know mister Dietz, but I certainly enjoyed reading the 2 poems that he had on his application. So looking forward to getting to know him a little bit better. Thank you very much. And, of course, we all know mister Menier. My comment is that, I met mister Meniere during my Inside Dublin tenure. And, I can’t emphasize enough the oratory eloquence that he would convey in about 45 minutes. And I know he ran long.

And I just learned so much from him every single time. So, thank you for that. And for Mr. Dietz, I, I did read your poems as well. So thank you very much. Touch Touch my heart every single time. And I read it to my daughter, and she’s like, did you write that? Like, no. There’s somebody else who’s way better at writing, and expressing feelings, more than dad can. So thank you very much.

City offices and buildings will be closed between December 24th January 2nd. 4 of those days are regular holiday closures and the other 3 December 26, 27 30. Are additional closures. You can look on our website to see what services we still offer. Obviously, this doesn’t impact, public safety. And secondly, tonight, I’m looking for head nods from you to, formally name our city council chambers after the late, Pete Snyder as Dublin’s first mayor and and someone who is instrumental in all of the activities that led up to Dublin’s incorporation in 1982. He played a pivotal role in our history, and and also the development of this building. So we felt it would be fitting to, name this chamber after mister Snyder. Yes. I see 5 head nods.

But I also wanted to say oh, shoot. He left. Mister Evans was in the room, and, I think he just now left. I wanted to congratulate him on a, a campaign well run, and we had quite a few people in the room tonight that were volunteers on 1 campaign or another, whether it was a district, election, for council member, whether it was 1 of the mayoral campaigns. And, I think that the fact that there were so many people here from so many different campaigns tonight that actually were here for almost our entire meeting speaks well to the future of our city. That, we have so many people that are engaged. I see volunteers from other committees here as well tonight. I think that that, that means that the entire city won in our elections this year because we had so many residents advocating for what they believe is best for our city. And, the fact that people who did not win didn’t go home and, say, that’s it. I’m not involved anymore.

Bodes really well for our city, and I look forward to continued collaboration with, all of folks with different viewpoints and different perspectives on what is best for Dublin and remembering that everybody’s perspective is coming from a place of what they truly feel is best for Dublin. And, so congratulations again to those of you who were sworn in tonight, and, looking forward to great things to come for the city of Dublin. Thank you. Thank you, Council Member Josie. Any comments from you? Oh, yeah. You know, I was gonna bore you with a list of activities this week, but I think, Council Member Josie set a pace. Tonight’s events overshadow everything. It’s a change of leadership. It’s a good change of leadership.

Yeah. No. Thank you. First of all, congratulations, and welcome to the dais, council member Murata. Welcome back to the dais, and thank you for serving as our temporary mayor for the past 6 or so months. Really appreciate that. And welcome, mayor who, honor and privilege to to serve along all sides, alongside all of you. I I just wanted to make 1 quick comment that, you know, obviously, we had some 1, 2 people that ran that didn’t that were not elected. I invite them to stay connected to the community, stay involved in the in in in our city, and help it grow. There are a number of opportunities that are available for in terms of commissions and and shorter term assignments.

So invite folks to, stay involved and stay connected and those, again, the 80 or so applicants that we received for the commissions to also stay involved. I also want to highly recommend the Inside Dublin program, which is in the summertime, spring, and and you can look look for information on that. In in terms of, outside activities, ACMED, have selected me as the vice president of the board. So, I’m I’m excited to continue to serve and represent Dublin in that capacity. And then there were 3 additional things. 1 is, there was some interest around a flagpole at Felon Sports Park. I was hoping either we could put that onto on the agenda or get head nods to to have staff, or give staff the direction to to push forward with that. Yeah. A little head nods. Yeah.

Perfect. And then the other 2 things, both cricket related. 1 is, the the Ashraf, Sanket Cricket Academy had 5 students that they wanted to recognize. This is DSCA. We may have received them their names. I would love to have invite them to to council and and, give them a certificate of of appreciation and or recognition rather, if there’s interest from the council. Yes. Perfect. And then the second is, in particular, men’s youth, 19, USA Cricket player who’s been nominated to the, men’s u 19 team, Adveth Krishna, who’s a former DHS student and student representative in our parts and rec recreation commission, who’s going to be competing in South Africa in in the coming months, would love to invite him and and recognize him as well. Yes.

We mentioned a few important holidays, spring festival and Diwali and Eid. We mentioned 3 so far and I just want to mention the holiday season is coming and, spring festival Chinese New Year is also coming. It’s faster this year than before. It’s like end of January. So, because we don’t have, this is the last council meeting for this year. So I want to ask, we have had not for city to to support. I’m looking for just, like, a facility, sponsorship, like a community center support for this Chinese New Year event event in So we have an item on the January 14th agenda that talks about cultural celebrations as a whole. But that sort of runs close to the Chinese New Year event. So, if I see head nods, we can take care of the, of the Chinese New Year in the way that you’ve suggested, and then move forward with our, overall discussion about how we treat those things in the future. I I can I ask a quick question?

In the and I know we don’t wanna get into the item, but the clarifying question is we’ve supported the, Chinese New Year event through the senior center in the past and also through our cooperation with Dillon High’s Theater. Are we not continuing on that already this year? I don’t have any information about that. Oh, okay. Okay. So we’re already on it? Okay. Perfect. So there we go. Already happened.
