Fremont, CA – In a region defined by innovation and growth, it’s rare to find an establishment that holds firm to tradition. But just off Warm Springs Boulevard in Fremont stands a culinary institution that’s been doing exactly that for 75 years come this spring 2026—Spin-A-Yarn Steakhouse.

A Story Born from Farmland

In the early 1950s, nestled between the eucalyptus trees and rich farmlands of what is now Fremont, there came to be a friendly little place where local farmers and their families could meet and share their stories. They told about their families coming from the East and crossing the vast plains and towering Rocky Mountains. They shared lessons they had learned about growing abundant crops of cauliflower for which the area was known.

Over the years, this unique hideaway became known for its splendid food and even an occasional drop or two of cider. It also became known as the town meeting place, where one could listen to the “Old Timers” tell many stories about life in the Old West, gold and silver mining in the Sierras, and the wild and woolly days on the docks of San Francisco.

Since what is now Warm Springs Boulevard used to be the primary route between San Francisco and Santa Cruz, many out-of-town visitors made this a favorite rest stop during their journeys. It was a place to get a good meal, quench one’s thirst, and tell a couple of stories. As time went by, it was only natural that this delightful town meeting place came to be known, as it still is today, as the “Spin-A-Yarn.”

A Local Legend Since 1951

Originally established in 1951, Spin-A-Yarn isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a local legend. It’s a place where generations have gathered for birthdays, anniversaries, business deals, and unforgettable meals. With its cozy ambiance, newly remodeled dining rooms, and white-tablecloth service, the steakhouse is a rare breed in a fast-paced food scene.

A Culinary Experience Rooted in Quality

At the heart of Spin-A-Yarn’s enduring reputation is its commitment to quality. The menu showcases premium USDA Choice and Prime cuts, aged and cooked to perfection. Signature dishes like the filet, ribeye, and the slow-roasted prime rib draw steak connoisseurs from across the Bay Area.

But it’s not just about beef. Diners rave about their Spin-A-Yarn Prawns, seared scallops, and the classic surf & turf. Each dish is plated with care, often accompanied by locally sourced vegetables and house-made sauces that reflect both craftsmanship and flavor.

More Than a Meal—It’s a Memory

What sets Spin-A-Yarn apart is its old-school charm. The warm lighting, dark leather booths, and attentive service create a dining experience reminiscent of a bygone era—something increasingly rare in today’s fast-casual culture.

Owned and operated by Saki Kavouniaris since 1995, the steakhouse has embraced its roots while evolving with the times. Under his stewardship, the restaurant underwent a major renovation in 2007, blending tradition with Tuscan elegance to create an inviting space that feels both upscale and familiar.

“We wanted to preserve the history, but also give our guests something truly special,” says Saki Kavouniaris. “Every meal here should feel like an event.”
